Jack Goodman on the Issues

Life

Jack is pro-life. He strongly believes in protecting life at all stages, especially those who cannot defend themselves. During his time in the Missouri House and Senate, Jack has been a strong defender of life and has helped Missouri become one of the most pro-life states in America. Jack will continue fighting to protect the unborn and to prevent government funding of abortions and abortion clinics. To read more about Jack leading the pro-life movement, click here.

Federal Budget

Federal spending is out of control. Unless we rein in spending, we will continue to mortgage the future for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many in Washington don’t seem to understand this. Taxpayers deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money. Jack’s record proves he believes in and will vote for limited government and lower taxes.

Stimulus bills and bailouts are not the answers to our problems. Spending our way out of this current economic situation is not feasible and is based on poor economic models. Jack will be your champion to change the “politics as usual” ways of Washington.

Jack also believes that we must pursue conservative solutions to the real problems facing our nation today. Jack has real, conservative ideas for a positive agenda. He believes conservatives must pursue a definite course and not simply be just a little less liberal than the liberals.

Jack has proposed an immediate moratorium on all earmarks until the federal spending process can be fixed, an across the board freeze on all federal spending and a balanced budget amendment. These are three pillars on which we can rebuild America’s fiscal strength.

Jack will vote only for balanced budgets and fight to reduce out of control spending.

Earmarks

Jack believes the federal appropriation process is terribly broken and must be reformed. Not only does the process lack the accountability and transparency the American people deserve, it promotes the vulgar spending of taxpayer money that has given Washington its lousy reputation. Jack proposes a moratorium on earmarks and will call on ALL members of congress and candidates to do the same until real reform can be implemented in the system.

Under any system of appropriations, Jack will not support any expenditure of taxpayer money that cannot bring a positive answer to these three questions:

  1. Is the proposal an appropriate government function as defined by our nation’s founders, or should it be left to the private sector? If yes, . . .
  2. Is the proposal an appropriate federal government function as defined by our nation’s founders, or should it be left to the state or local governments? If yes, . . .
  3. Does the proposal address a legitimate need in the most efficient, accountable and transparent way?

If the answer to any of these three questions is “no,” Jack will oppose the expenditure.

Second Amendment

Jack is a strong supporter of the Constitution, including the 2nd Amendment. Jack was instrumental in helping to pass Missouri’s concealed carry law. He also wrote and sponsored Missouri’s version of the Castle Doctrine, which allows homeowners to fully protect themselves against unlawful intruders. Jack is a proud member of the NRA with an A+ rating. Jack believes there should be no further encroachment on our right to keep and bear arms.

National Security

Unfortunately, we live in a dangerous world. We cannot make friends with those who have sworn to kill us. Jack will fight to provide all necessary resources to the men and women of our armed forces who lay their lives on the line everyday to protect the American way of life against terrorists and other threats.

We owe a debt of gratitude to those who have served and given their lives defending our freedom and liberty. Jack will work hard to provide the best care possible for our veterans and current uniformed service members.

Securing the Border and Immigration

One of Washington’s biggest failures is its refusal to address Illegal immigration. America can no longer afford to have open borders.

Recognizing that Washington was failing the people, Jack worked at the state level to enable Missouri and our local government to enforce laws dealing with illegal immigrants and the Missouri legislature passed some of the toughest legislation in the country.

There are many good people around the world who would like to enter our country legally and follow our rules. Jack welcomes all people who want to legally, productively become a part of the greatness of America.
Those who enter the country illegally should not be rewarded for breaking the law. Jack is opposed to amnesty. He will fight for additional funding for border security and training for border patrol agents.

Energy Independence

Energy policy is a national priority. Washington should not continue to restrict the development of cheaper energy or increase taxes on consumers.

Congress must open up domestic supplies of energy to exploration and encourage next generation coal, nuclear, wind, hydroelectric power and other energy sources if we are to reduce dependence on foreign oil. Jack believes Congress should implement a long-term energy plan that ensures reliable and affordable supplies of American energy for the future.

Agriculture

Jack will work to ensure that America has a safe, stable, and plentiful supply of agricultural products, protecting both American producers and consumers. Jack will support permanently eliminating the death tax to help keep farms in families. He will continue to work hard to keep American agriculture the best in the world. Jack believes that providing markets is among the most important things we can do for farmers.

Jack believes we should protect the family farm and encourage the next generation of farmers to continue their heritage.

Healthcare

Jack believes there is a general consensus on the principles that Americans are looking for in any health care reform proposal: affordability, accessibility, choice, and quality. He strongly believes that putting individuals, families, and doctors, not the government, in control of the healthcare system is the key to success.

Jack is opposed to giving more power to the federal government to administer healthcare. This would directly result in a massive one-size-fits-all government bureaucracy that is costly, inefficient, and will likely require an increase in taxes on hard working Americans and those who create needed jobs. Jack believes we should empower individuals and families in their healthcare decisions.

Jack believes the focus should be on making healthcare more affordable and efficient without sacrificing access to quality doctors, without increasing the federal deficit or raising taxes and putting our nation on an unsustainable course. Free market ideas, with the patient having more information about the quality and cost of care and the freedom to choose their provider, deserve serious consideration to help reduce the ever-rising costs. Members of Congress are able to choose the benefits that are right for them and their families; you should have the same choice.

Education

Jack supports returning control of our children's education to those who understand their needs the best - parents and our local educators. Our children are our future and our education system must prepare each generation to compete in the global economy. In order for the United States to be globally competitive and innovative, we must have an educational environment that encourages entrepre¬neurship and excellence. We need to increase America's competitiveness by improving its performance in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

Family Values

Jack strongly believes in protecting the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman.
